Tottenham holds an emergency meeting following the heavy defeat against Atletico Madrid, with interim manager Igor Tudor under significant pressure stemming from his contentious decision involving goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.
Tottenham is in serious crisis after the heavy defeat against Atletico Madrid, forcing the club's leadership to convene an emergency meeting to reassess the situation and the future of interim manager Igor Tudor.
According to British media, CEO Vinai Venkatesham was present at Tottenham's training center early in the morning to initiate an internal investigation following the team's disastrous performance in Spain. Discussions with Tudor and the coaching staff commenced immediately after the squad returned to London.
The focal point of criticism directed at Tudor revolves around his handling of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky. The 22-year-old keeper made an error leading to Tottenham conceding early and was substituted after just 17 minutes of play. This decision is considered overly harsh, especially as Tudor offered almost no words of encouragement to the young player as he left the pitch in disappointment.
After the match, many opinions suggest Tudor's position at Tottenham has become extremely precarious. However, the club's leadership currently has no clear replacement plan. Nevertheless, some betting agencies have listed former Nottingham Forest and Everton manager Sean Dyche as a potential candidate if Tottenham decides to change coaches.
In long-term planning, Tottenham is reportedly considering two names for the permanent manager position next season: Roberto De Zerbi and Mauricio Pochettino. Notably, De Zerbi is currently available after leaving Marseille and is viewed as the top candidate. In fact, Spurs are said to have already initiated preliminary contacts with the Italian strategist.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere in Tottenham's dressing room has also become tense. Defender Micky van de Ven admitted the team is experiencing the worst period of the season: “Honestly, everything is terrible. We are suffering consecutive shocks. In the first 20 minutes of the match, nearly everything that could go wrong did go wrong,” the Dutch defender shared with media from his home country.
Van de Ven also expressed sympathy for goalkeeper Kinsky: “It's tough for him, this was his debut and no one wants to experience that.” The current crisis has prompted several Tottenham legends to speak out. Icon Teddy Sheringham even urged the leadership to swiftly dismiss Tudor if they wish to salvage the season.
According to Sheringham, Tottenham needs a manager who understands the team and can immediately stabilize the dressing room. If changes are not made promptly, he warns that Spurs could entirely fall into a relegation battle, which would become a major stain in the club's history.
